WCM Mariana Silva wins Portuguese Women’s Chess Championship 2023

The Portuguese Women’s Chess Championship 2023 took place from 22-25 April at the at the Vale de São Cosme Sports Complex facility. The event was played in 6 rounds, swiss system, with the participation of 24 players who fought for the title.

WCM Mariana Silva and her sister WFM Ana Ines Silva emerged on the top scoring 5 points, each. Mariana had better tiebreak criteria to be crowned as the Portuguese Women’s Champion for the third time in her career after clinching National events in 2019 and 2022. Ana clinched gold medal, while 14-year-old Marta Almeida claimed bronze with the score of 4.5 points.
