Candidates Tournament 2024 – Drawing of lots held in Toronto’s Madison Pub

by L'immortale

The Candidates Chess Tournament 2024 starts in April in Toronto, Canada, determining the Challenger for the World Chess Championship Match 2025! For the first time in history, Women’s and Open Candidates will be held in the same venue.

The Pairings of both tournaments will be known very soon, as the Drawing of Lots ceremony already took place in Toronto’s Madison Pub. The ceremony took place yesterday, determining colors and tournaments pairings.

The numbers are still held in secret, but the photos reveal that Gukesh D will have number 4, and Hikaru Nakamura might have number 1 on the starting list.

Considering the Rulebook of the Candidates Tournament which says that the players from the same federation play against each other in the first rounds, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and Praggnanandhaa got either starting numbers 5 or 6, and Fabiano Caruana would have the starting number 8.
