Wadim Rosenstein, Russian-German tycoon and sponsor of the WR chess team, has announced the WR Chess Masters Cup, which will take place from 14-18th October in London, United Kingdom.

The tournament format will be the 16-player Knockout with the faster time control 60 min for the first 30 moves, 30 min for the next 20 moves and 30 min for the rest of the game.

American Grandmaster Hans Niemann asked for an invite via X/Twitter: “Would you like to invite America’s brightest talent? I would be honored with the opportunity to participate.”

He got a cynical response from Rosenstein: “I’m pleased to invite you to participate in a RR 15+0, featuring a $1 million buy-in. The tournament will include 4 players, with the prize distribution as follows: 1st place $2 million, 2nd place $1.5 million, 3rd place $0.4 million, and 4th place $0. Venue: Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort. Would the first week of December work well for you?”

Rosenstein added that the other 3 players are from the world’s top 10 and are already confirmed. Niemann replied that he will play and asked publicly if anyone is willing to sponsor his buy-in.
