Bu Xiangzhi wins Shenzhen Chess Masters 2024

The 5th edition of the Shenzhen Masters concluded today in Shenzhen Longgang, China! The event featured an impressive 8-player line-up of the 2698 average rating with four Chinese players in the field, and four foreigners.

After 7 played rounds, as many as three players tied for the top scoring 4.5 points, each: GM Bu Xiangzhi (China, 2671), GM Yu Yangyi (China, 2720) and GM Arjun Erigaisi (India, 2738), and the tiebreak criteria determined the Winner of the event.

The first tiebreaker was the direct encounter and GM Bu Xiangzhi had the best direct score against the co-leaders to clinch gold. GM Yu Yangyi finished the event in the second place and GM Arjun Erigaisi came third.

The top-seeded GM Anish Giri (Netherlands, 2762) finished the event with the score of 2.5 points. Starting with a victory in the first round against Vladislav Artemiev (FIDE, 2711), Giri had three consecutive losses and stopped the bleeding with three draws in the last three rounds.
