Christopher Yoo wins Golden State Chess Open 2024

The 15th edition of the Golden State Chess Open took place from 12-15 January in San Rafael, California. The event featured five tournaments: Major, U2100, U1800, U1500, and U1200, gathering 300 players. The total prize fund of the event was $25.000.

17-year-old GM Christopher Yoo lived up to the expectations as the top-seeded player of the Major section, winning the event with 6.5/7 points. Going unbeaten, Christopher Yoo was the sole winner of the event and pocketed a money prize of $3.100. GM Stopa Jacek finished the event in a clear second place with 5.5 points, while three players tied for third place scoring 5 points (each): Luke Widjaja, Sebby Suarez, and Jashith Karthi.
