Addis Ababa played host to pivotal continental elections today as member delegates gathered in the Ethiopian capital for the 10th African Chess Confederation (ACC) Electoral General Assembly to determine the organization’s executive team for the upcoming term.
The highlight of the assembly was a tightly contested presidential election that came down to a single vote. Kenyaโs Benard Wanjala emerged victorious with 25 votes, narrowly defeating outgoing leadership candidate Tshepiso Lopang of Botswana, who received 24 votes.
With this result, Benard Wanjala has officially been elected President of the African Chess Confederation, ushering in a new chapter for the sport’s administration across the continent.
Following the presidential vote, the General Assembly finalized the composition of the new ACC Board:
