The legendary Marshall Chess Club in New York has announced an exclusive event featuring one of the most prominent figures in American chess, Jennifer Shahade.
On April 14, 2026, the two-time U.S. Women’s Champion will visit the club for a special lecture and signing of her latest book, Thinking Sideways: How to Think Like a Chess Player and Win at Life.
The evening is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM with a reception, followed by the main lecture and book signing at 7:00 PM. The session will be moderated by National Master Anthony Levin. According to the club’s announcement, this event is reserved exclusively for Marshall Chess Club members.
In her new book, Thinking Sideways, Jennifer Shahade transcends the 64 squares of the chessboard to offer readers a guide on applying grandmaster-level logic to everyday challenges. Shahade explores how the strategic depth of chess, ranging from calculating risks to managing time and emotional control, can be utilized to build focus, enhance confidence, and make smarter life choices.
Rather than a dry technical manual, the book serves as a bridge between professional competition and personal development. By sharing essential life lessons learned through years of high-stakes play, Shahade provides a unique perspective on “thinking sideways”, a method of looking at problems from unconventional angles to find winning solutions both on and off the board.
