WR Chess Masters High Roller cancelled?

by doubleattack
Hans Niemann

Hans Niemann announced on Twitter/X that he is “withdrawing” from the WR Chess Masters High Roller due to “contractual disputes”. He further states he believes the event will not be held.

Earlier, Wadim Rosenstein, a Russian tycoon and sponsor of the WR chess team, claimed that WR Chess Masters High Roller with $1 million buy-in will take place on 21st November in Duesseldorf, Germany.

The 1-day rapid tournament with 15-minutes time control was supposed to feature four players with $4 million stakes in prizes.

Rosenstein said that Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Nodirbek Abdusattorov were confirmed participants and offered Hans Niemann with 4th invite, provided that Niemann can provide a $1 million buy-in.

Rosenstein did not yet comment on Niemann’s tweet. Was this event ever planned to take place or it was only a elaborate publicity stunt?
