In a highly charged and closely contested extraordinary general assembly, Paul Meyer-Dunker has been elected as the new President of the German Chess Federation (Deutscher Schachbund – DSB).
The extraordinary federal congress took place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Saalbau Volkshaus Sossenheim in Frankfurt am Main.
The focal point of the congress was the highly anticipated presidential election, which pitted Niklas Rickmann, the President of the Chess Association of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, against Paul Meyer-Dunker, the former President of the Berlin Chess Association.
Following a secret ballot, Meyer-Dunker emerged victorious by the absolute narrowest of margins. He secured 116 votes to defeat Rickmann, who garnered 114 votes. Out of all ballots cast, only a single delegate chose to abstain.
The newly formed executive committee will include Jürgen Gersinska, Jürgen Klüners and Jannik Kiesel.
Within the wider chess community Meyer-Dunker is known for his close connections to Wadim Rosenstein. The two were previously seen together attending the European Chess Championship in Poland.
