The II Torneo de Ajedrez Memorial Emilio Sánchez Jerez concluded on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the iconic Rincón Huertano in Beniaján, Murcia. Organised by the Beniaján Chess Club (Club de Ajedrez Beniaján) to honor the legacy of its former director, the prestigious rapid event featured a prize fund exceeding €8,000.
The tournament brought together a competitive field of 226 players who battled over 9 rounds of fast-paced action under a 10-minute plus 5-second increment time control.
At the end of nine grueling rounds, Spanish Grandmaster David Antón Guijarro and Austrian Grandmaster Kirill Alekseenko dominated the upper boards, finishing at the top of the standings tied with an outstanding score of 8.0/9 points.
Following the tournament’s tiebreak criteria, GM David Antón Guijarro claimed the 1st place trophy and the €1,500 top cash prize, while GM Alekseenko took clear 2nd place.
The event offered an extensive range of prizes across general, rating, and age-category brackets:
- General Standings: 1st Place (€1,500 + Trophy), 2nd Place (€1,200 + Trophy), 3rd Place (€900 + Trophy)
- Field Size: 226 participants competing in a 9-round Swiss system
