The 2026 Uruguayan Chess Championship Final has concluded in Montevideo, crowning new national champions in both the Open and Women’s categories. The event, which ran from March 28 to April 3, brought together the country’s top talent for a decisive round-robin showdown.
In the Open Final, IM Luis Ernesto Rodi claimed the national title after 9 rounds of intense fights. Rodi finished the tournament with 6.5 points, maintaining a narrow but decisive half-point lead over his closest rivals.
The battle for the podium was close, with Eduardo Elena and the experienced IM Bernardo Roselli Mailhe both finishing with 6 points. Elena secured the runner-up spot on tie-breaks.
The Women’s Final saw a standout performance by Nahiara Fabra, who secured the championship with an impressive 1.5-point lead. Fabra finished with 6 points out of 7, showcasing dominant form throughout the tournament. Agustina Silva took second place with 4.5 points, followed by Caterina Altesor in third.
Organized by the Uruguayan Chess Federation and Club Sin Limites, this championship remains the most prestigious event in the national circuit.
