GMs Zhou Jianchao and Attila Czebe share first place in George Washington Chess Open

The 8th annual George Washington Open 2024 was held from 23-25th February at the Washington Dulles Marriott Hotel, 45020 Aviation Drive, Dulles, Virginia, USA.

The tournament was rather short, with only 5-round Swiss, and the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30. The event consisted of five sections: Major (over 1900), U2100, U1800, U1500 and U1200, with the top two sections being FIDE rated.

The Major Section had 55 participants. Grandmasters Zhou Jianchao (China 2661) and Attila Czebe (Hungary 2386) shared the first place with 4,5/5 points each. They were each awarded with $1500.

GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez (USA, 2615) and Siddharth Singh (USA, 2161) shared the third place with 4,0/5 points each. Priyansh Garg (USA, 2131), WIM Michelle Catherina (India, 2299), Vaibhav Robinjith Kalpaka 2196, FM Sudarshan Sriniaiyer (India, 2302) and Max England (Canada, 2202) shared the 5th place with 3,5/5 points each.

The Under 2100 Section gathered 69 players. Jagadeeshwa Yehamandram Sridhar (1933) crushed the opposition to emerge clear winner with the perfect 5/5 score.
The Under 1800 Section had 58 players. Ethan Crawford (1655) was convincing in claiming the first place and $1200 prize with the score of perfect 5/5 points.
The Under 1500 Section gathered 33 participants. Benjamin Lin (1273) won all 5 games and took a clear first place for a $1000 prize.
The Under 1200 Section had 52 participants. Krish Jeyakumar (1166) was also perfect with 5/5 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

The total prize fund of the events was $17,000.
