The Fagernes International Autumn 2026 will take place from October 3 to 11, 2026, at the Scandic Valdres hotel and conference centre in Fagernes, Norway.
Organised by International Organiser Hans Olav Lahlum in cooperation with Sotra Sjakklubb, the event serves as a key fixture in the Norwegian Grand Prix cycle (Norges Grand Prix 2026–2027).
The main competition features two 10-round Swiss system divisions played at the classical time control of 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 40 minutes for the remainder of the game, with a 30-second increment per move.
The flagship GM Swiss group caters to titled players and participants with a FIDE rating of at least 2000 (1900 for women), offering ideal conditions for achieving FIDE norm performance requirements. The organisers expect an elite field of 80 to 90 participants, including 12 to 14 Grandmasters and a median Elo rating around 2300. The winner will be awarded 3000 EUR.
Parallel to the top section, the Open Swiss group provides a FIDE-rated platform accessible to players of all ratings.
In addition to the classical schedule, the festival will host a series of side events throughout the week. Highlights include the social “Teamtalkingchess” rapid event on October 7, a 7-round FIDE-rated “Slow Blitz” tournament on October 8, and a 9-round FIDE-rated Blitz tournament on October 9.
All games from the GM group and top boards from the Open group will be broadcast live online.
