The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of FIDE and the Commonwealth Chess Association is organizing the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024 from 28th August to 5th September 2024 at Citrus Hotel Waskaduwa in Kalutara, Sri Lanka.
Each Commonwealth country is eligible to field one man, one woman, One Senior (Above-60), one Junior Girl (Under-20), one Junior Open (Under-20) player and one Open and girl each in under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 as official entrants. Their boarding and lodging will be provided free in Official hotel.
All tournaments will be played over 9 rounds of Swiss system. Time Control: 90 min + 30 sec per move from move number 1. Rapid time control is 15 min + 10 sec. Blitz time control is 3 min + 2 sec.
The total prize fund is Rs. 5,325,000/- (approx. USD 15000)
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in Open, Women, Senior (Above 60 years), Under-20 (Open and Girls), Under-18 (Open and Girls), Under-16 (Open and Girls), Under-14 (Open and Girls), Under-12 (Open and Girls), Under-10 (Open and Girls), Under-8 (Open and Girls) categories. The medal winners will be referred to as Commonwealth Medalists. The gold medal winners will receive a Trophy also.
In Rapid and Blitz also Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in Open, Women, Senior (Above 60 years), Under-20 (Open and Girls), Under-18 (Open and Girls), Under-16 (Open and Girls), Under-14 (Open and Girls), Under-12 (Open and Girls), Under-10 (Open and Girls), Under-8 (Open and Girls) categories.
