Amirreza Pour Agha Bala clinches Iranian Chess Championship 2023

The 56th Iranian Chess Championship for Men took place from 11-21 May in Kerman, simultaneously with the 33rd Iranian Women’s Chess Championship. The event was played as a 14-player round-robin tournament with the time control of 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds increment for each move.

After 13 played rounds, 19-year-old Amirreza Pour Agha Bala emerged as the sole winner of the event, scoring 11/13 points. Pour Agha Bala started slow with 4/6, but then won seven consecutive games to be crowned as the Iranian Chess Champion for 2023!

The top-seeded GM Bardiya Daneshvar came second with the score of 10.5 points, while GM Seyed Khalil Mousavi won bronze medal with 8.5 points.
