The XIX American Continental Chess Championship 2026 is set to take place at the Hotel Dorados Conventions & Resorts in Oaxtepec. Running from June 1 to June 11, 2026, this year’s edition is dedicated as the “Jorge Vega Fernández In Memoriam” to honor the legendary continental president.
Dedicated to the memory of legendary continental president Jorge Vega Fernández, the event is organized by the National Chess Federation of Mexico (FENAMAC) and the Chess Confederation of the Americas (CCA).
The tournament features 93 players representing 19 different chess federations from the American continent. The field includes 16 Grandmasters (GMs) and 23 International Masters (IMs).
The main competition is being played as an 11-round Swiss tournament under a classical time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. Later in the week, the venue will also host the XIX Continental Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships.
The stakes for the event are exceptionally high, as the top four finishers will officially qualify for the FIDE World Cup of the 2027 World Championship cycle.
Additionally, participants are competing for a total cash prize fund of $20,000 USD. The tournament features a guaranteed $4,000 USD first prize for the overall champion, alongside dedicated payouts for special categories including Best Female player, Best Senior (+50 and +65), and Best Master (+35).
