After losing to Vladislav Artemiev in the QF of CCT Chessable Masters, Magnus Carlsen landed in the Losers bracket where he was paired against Liem Le in round 1.
The match ended 1-1 after two draws and a bidding Armageddon was to be played to decide the winner.
Liem’s bid of 10:58 was beaten by Magnus’ 10:29. This means that Liem played white with 15 minutes vs Magnus as black with 10:29 and draw odds. There was no increment throughout Armageddon.
Carlsen managed to hold against white’s Catalan opening and finally forced a draw with a cute Knight fork, securing qualification to round 2. Video replay below.
