The 2022 Vugar Gashimov Memorial will be held from 18th-23rd December in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The tournament is dedicated to the memory of the Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Gashimov who was the No. 6 in the world in November 2009 and had a peak rating of 2761 in January 2012.
The event gathers 10 elite grandmasters:

- GM Sam Shankland,
- GM Dommaraju Gukesh,
- GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov,
- GM Rauf Mamedov,

- GM Aydin Suleymanli.
The 2022 Vugar Gashimov Memorial will contain Rapid and Blitz stages, and the final standings will be determined according to the sum of points of the Rapid and Blitz tournaments. The Rapid portion will be played in 9 rounds, round-robin system, with a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment, and the Blitz tournament will be played in 18 rounds, round-robin system, with time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
