Grand Chess Tour

The 11th edition of the Grand Chess Tour (GCT) kicks off in Warsaw with the Super Rapid & Blitz Poland, held from May 3 to May 10, 2026. This event marks the first of three speed-chess tournaments in the circuit, featuring a $200,000 prize fund.

The field is composed of five full-tour players and five wildcards, but two specific matchups and appearances are drawing significant attention:

This tournament will host the first face-to-face encounter between the reigning World Champion Gukesh D and Javokhir Sindarov since the Uzbek grandmaster officially became the World Championship Challenger. Their games in Warsaw will be closely watched as a tactical prelude to their upcoming match for the title.

Among the wildcards is Hans Niemann, whose participation is particularly noteworthy given his well-documented past disputes and legal disagreements with the Saint Louis Chess Club (the primary organizer of the Grand Chess Tour). His presence in the 2026 lineup signals a significant development in his professional relationship with the tour’s organizers.

Gukesh Dommaraju, India, World Champion, Wildcard
Javokhir Sindarov, Uzbekistan, World Championship Challenger
Fabiano Caruana, USA, GCT Champion
Hans Niemann, USA, Wildcard
