The 54th Annual Continental Chess Open 2024 took place from 15-18th August at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel in Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA.
The event had seven sections: Premier (for players rated over 2000), Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1100. The top two sections are FIDE rated.
The tournament format was 7-round Swiss with the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30 (2-day option, rounds 1-2 G/60 d10).
The main Premier Section had 51 participants. Grandmasters Zhou Jianchao and Fidel Corrales Jimenez shared the first place with 6/7 points each. Both were awarded $2,250 each.
Under 2100 section had 66 participants. In the closely contested tournament Ben Gershenov 2087 NY, Marzouq Chowdhury 2050 NY and Shwaas Patil 1919 MA shared the first place with 5.5/7 points each.
Under 1900 section gathered 37 participants. Daniel Tiedemann 1863 MA emerged sole winner with 6.5/7 points.
Under 1700 section had 28 players. Nicholas M Rye 1567 MA won this section with 6/7 points.
Under 1500 section had 34 participants. Derek J Diprete 1483 CT was clear first with 6/7 points.
Under 1300 section was won by Andrew Chang 1133 MA, and Silas Onkelinx 921 MA was best in the Under 1100 section.
Premier Section final standings:
1-2 GM Jianchao Zhou 2655 MA and GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez 2643 NY – 6.0
3 FM Danila Poliannikov 2398 MA – 5.5
4 Nathaniel Philip Moor 2323 CT – 5.0
5-8. Jordan Groff 2234 CT, GM Alexander Ivanov 2507 MA, CM Joseph Cheng-yue Wan 2310 IA and Sho Glashausser 2220 KS – 4.5 etc
The event had a $30,000 guaranteed prize fund.
