GM Peter Prohaszka and WFM Zsuzsanna Terbe emerged as the Hungarian Chess Champions for 2022.
GM Peter Prohaszka finished the event unbeaten with a score of 17 points, clinching his maiden national title. Prohaszka was two points ahead of the first runner-up GM Sergey Grigoriants who became Hungarian Vice-Champion. GM Adam Kozak won bronze with 13 points.
WFM Zsuzsanna Terbe successfully defended her 2021 Women’s Champion title after winning the Women’s tournament with a score of 16 points and a round to spare. She lost the last round to WFM Boglarka Erdos who emerged as the bronze medalist afterwards. WIM Julianna Terbe was silver with 14 points.
The 71st edition of the Hungarian Open Chess Championship and the 66th Hungarian Women’s Chess Championship took place from 5-13 December in Budapest. Both events were played as 10-player round-robin tournaments. The players were gaining 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
