Turkish Chess Federation has started preparing for the 45th Chess Olympiad which will take place in Budapest, Hungary, in September this year.

Following the online training that started in January, the Turkish team continued preparations at the camp held from 13-19 February in Antalya Mirage Park Resort Hotel with GM Ivan Cheparinov as the head coach. The camp includes eight players who are the candidates for the National team: GM Mustafa Yilmaz, GM Vahap Sanal, GM Emre Can, GM Mert Yilmazyerli, GM Cem Kaan Gokerkan, IM Ediz Gurel, IM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, and GM Cemil Can Ali Marandi who couldn’t take part in the camp.
The Turkish Chess Federation announced that the Women’s team will have the training camp in March. The announcement can be seen below.
Turkish Team at the Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai finished the event in the 28th position and was the 21st seed on the starting list. The team composition was as follows: 1. GM Mustafa Yilmaz, 2. GM Emre Can, 3. GM Vahap Sanal, 4. GM Cemil Can Ali Marandi, 5. GM Dragan Solak.
The team composition was slightly different at the European Team Chess Championship 2023 held in Montenegro where Turkey competed with the following team: 1. GM Mustafa Yilmaz, 2. GM Vahap Sanal, 3. GM Emre Can, 4. GM Cemil Can Ali Marandi, 5. GM Mert Yilmazyerli. The Open team scored 9 match points at the event, sharing 16-24 place, and held the starting number 16.
