The Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024 was held from 28th August to 5th September 2024 at Citrus Hotel Waskaduwa in Kalutara, Sri Lanka.
The event was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of FIDE and the Commonwealth Chess Association.
The Championship had the main Open section and age groups for Open and Girls in under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 years. All tournaments were played over 9 rounds of Swiss system.
The main Open section had 69 participants. Indian Grandmasters Sethuraman S.P. and Vignesh N R shared the first place with 7/9 points each. Sethuraman S.P. is declared winner on better Buchholz tiebreak.
The Commonwealth Rapid Chess Championship 2024 was held over two days as a 7-round Swiss with the time control 15 min + 10 sec. GM Mitrabha Guha from India won this event with 6,5/7 points.
The Commonwealth Blitz Chess Championship 2024 took place on 29th August as a 9-round Swiss with the time control 3 min + 2 sec. Grandmasters Swapnil S. Dhopade and Mitrabha Guha shared the first place with 7,5/9 points each, only this time Dhopade took the winner’s trophy on better tiebreak.
The total prize fund was Rs. 5,325,000/- (approx. USD 15000)
