Peter Gilruth emerged as the winner of the 12th Capablanca Cup which was held over the weekend of 21st & 22nd of January 2023. The event was played in 4 rounds, swiss system, in the German School in Nairobi, Kenya.
Five players were in a tie for the top scoring 3/4 points, each, with Peter Gilruth lifting the Winners trophy thanks to the best tiebreak criteria. Peter Gilruth is the only player who has won Kenya’s prestigious event twice (in 2015 and in 2023). The top five players shared the money prize of 30.000 KES (around $240).
