Mustafa Yilmaz emerged as the Winner of the Turkish Chess Championship 2022 to claim his third National Champion title after clinching the Turkish Championship in 2009 and the Turkish Championship in 2017.
As the top-seeded player in the event, GM Mustafa Yilmaz lived up to the expectations and scored 6.5 points to be the sole Winner of the Championship. After losing to Alparslan Isik in the seventh round, Yilmaz scored 1.5 points in the last two rounds to secure gold and win the money prize of $5365.
Four players tied for silver: GM Mert Yilmazyerli, FM Huseyin Can Agdelen, FM Alparslan Isik, and CM Efe Metehan Yavuz, with the tiebreaks criteria determining Yilmazyerli as silver and Agdelen as bronze medalist.
The Turkish Chess Championship 2022 was held from 25th November to 3rd December 2022 in Kemer, Antalya. The tournament was played in 9 rounds, round-robin system, with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. The total prize fund of the event was $12000.
