Two young Mongolian chess players emerged as the Winners of the recently held National Chess Championship of Mongolia 2023. 16-year-old Munkhdalai Amilal and 14-year-old Erdenebayar Khulsen clinched their maiden titles in the Mongolian Open and Women’s Championships (respectively).
16-year-old FM Munkhdalai Amilal was the 10th seed of the tournament and sensationally clinched the tile with the score of 7.5/11 points, without a single loss! Amilal won the IM norm at the tournament and added more than 200 elo points to his current rating of 2141! GM Gombosuren Munkhgal and IM Sugar Gan-Erdene tied for the second place with 7.5 points, each, but Munkhgal won silver thanks to better tiebreak criteria and Gan-Erdene claimed bronze. It was a very close race for the Mongolian Women’s Chess Championship throne as Erdenebayar Khuslen, Khishigbaatar Bayasgalan and Batsaikhan Enkhsaran tied for the top scoring 7.5 points, each. However, 14-year-old Erdenebayar clinched her maiden title thanks to victories in both direct encounters. Khishigbaatar won silver and Batsaikhan came third. The 61st edition of theย Mongolian Chess Championshipย and the 53rd edition of theย Mongolian Womenโs Chess Championship 2023 were simultaneously held in Khovd, Mongolia, from 20-30 May. The events were played in 11 rounds, round-robin system, with time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.
