The 2024 Reading Week Open took place during the Family Day long weekend, from 17-19th February at the Great Hall of Hart House, University of Toronto, Canada. It was 6-round Swiss tournament split into 7 rating sections โ Crown (2200+), Under 2200, Under 1900, Under 1600, Under 1300 Sections, U1200-Juniors.
The main Crown section had 19 players. IM Nikolay Noritsyn defended the last year’s trophy and ended clear first with 5,0/6 points, half a point clear from IM Mark Plotkin. Final rankings can be found below
The U2200 section had 45 participants. Tony Bohan Bao and Syed Ibrahim Ahmed shared the first place with 5/6 points each. The U1900 section also had 45 players. Jayden Zihan Zhan emerged clear winner with 5,5/6 points.
The U1600 section was crowded with 57 participants. Nathaniel Yong crushed the opposition to conclude the event with perfect 6/6 score.
The U1300 section also had 57 participants. Andrew Bucci conceded only half a point and took a clear first place with 5,5 points.
The U1200 Junior group gathered 28 players. Edward Chan and Mulin Chen shared the first place with 5/6 points each.
