Hikaru Nakamura continues with the practice to recap his games from the tournaments. Hikaru played a draw against his countryman Fabiano Caruana in the first round of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024, and both players said in the post-game interview that they were happy with the result. Despite the peaceful result, the game was pretty wild with two brilliant rooks sacrifices by Nakamura.
“The first game ended in a peaceful result, which of course is generally very good for me. Playing with black pieces in the first round against a player that people say is the favourite to win the tournament is always good. I hope that you guys enjoyed the game, I tried to play something different“, said Hikaru in his Round 1 recap.
