International Chess Day is celebrated every year, on 20 July, day the International Chess Federation FIDE was founded back in 1924. UNESCO proposed to celebrate this day as the international chess day in 1966, and in 2019 the UN General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution to recognize 20 July as the International Chess Day.
Celebrating chess and its 100th birthday, FIDE is on a quest to set the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours. List of the events registered within the Official Guinness World Record attempt can be found here.
