Chess.com’s Late Title Tuesday took place yesterday (January 30th, 2024) with the participation of nearly 500 players and GM Hans Niemann emerged as the Winner of the event, ahead of GM Hikaru Nakamura.

Niemann and Nakamura had the same score of 10/11 points, but Hans had better tiebreaks to win the event. The direct encounter between the players happened in the 9th round of the event, and Niemann took a victory after 96 played moves. The game can be replayed below.

As usual, Hikaru streamed during the Titled Tuesday. “I am just kind of misplaying this whole game,” said Nakamura while playing against Niemann. The position was very closed, but Hans managed to break through. The game finished as Nakamura blundered Niemann’s Queen promotion. “I just went insane!” said Hikaru and laughed at the outcome. “It’s pretty frustrating since I maneuvered the whole game and then blundered in the end“, he added. You can replay Nakamura’s reaction below (the complete stream can be replayed on Kick).

Following his victory in the Late Titled Tuesday, Hans Niemann challenged Nakamura for a charity match. “Why don’t we play a blitz match for charity, loser donates 10k to the winner’s charity of choice“, wrote Niemann on his Twitter account.

GM Hikaru Nakamura still holds first place on the chess.com leaderboard with the Online blitz rating of 3305. He is closely followed by World No1 Magnus Carlsen whose online blitz rating is 3302, and Hans Niemann is currently third with 3226.
