GM Leon Luke Mendonca wins 27th HIT Chess Open with perfect 9/9!

Indian Grandmaster Leon Luke Mendonca scored impressive 9/9 points to clinch the 27th edition of the HIT Chess Open in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. With the performance of 3196, Mendonca earned 26,4 rating points and won the first money prize of 1,000 EUR.

Three players tied for the second place trailing by 2.5 points: GM Sabino Brunello, GM Marko Tratar and GM Aleksa Strikovic. Tiebreak criteria favored the Italian grandmaster Brunello, Slovenian grandmaster Tratar came third and the Serbian grandmaster Strikovic finished the event in the fourth place.

The 27th edition of the HIT Chess Open took place from 16-23 March in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The event was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with 84 players in the field. The time control was: 90 minutes for the entire game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.
