Ding Liren defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi in the last rapid tie-break game to claim the victory in the World Chess Championship match and the title of new World Chess Champion! It was a very emotional moment for both players. While Nepo nervously jumped out of his seat, Ding Liren seemed shocked with his face in hands. His reaction showed once again what is widely known: chess is the pure emotion.
“I am quite relieved. The moment Ian resigned the game was a very emotional moment. I couldn’t control my feelings. I know myself, I will cry and burst into tears. It was a tough tournament for me. I would like to thank my friends“, said Ding Liren at the press conference which took place right after the tiebreaks.
