Just a week after the end of the World Chess Championship Match 2023, the main actors of the match Ding Liren and Ian Nepomniachtchi will have a chance to again face each-other at the Grand Chess Tour Romania, the first event of the 2023 Grand Chess Tour. Ding Liren’s second, Richard Rapport, will also take part in the tournament as well as Anish Giri, Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, and Bogdan-Daniel Deac.
The event will take place from 5-15 May in Bucharest, Romania as a 10-player round-robin tournament. The total prize fund of the event is 350.000 USD with 100.000 USD reserved for the Winner. This will be the first of two classical events in the tour, and the participantsโ first chance to earn GCT points for the 2023 tour.
