GM Batchuluun Tsegmed Wins Los Angeles Chess Open 2024

The 19th Annual Los Angeles Chess Open 2024 was held from 1-3th November at the Hilton Orange County Airport in Irvine, California, USA.

The event had seven sections: Major (for players rated over 1900), Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000. The top two sections are FIDE rated.

The tournament format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30 (2-day option, rounds 1-2 G/60 d10).

The main Major Section had 79 participants. Grandmaster Batchuluun Tsegmed took a clear first place with 4.5/5 points, earning the top prize of $2100. Other Grandmasters fell short on 3.5 points and finished without prizes.

Under 2100 section had 71 players. Ephraim M Rosenstock 2086, Davit Simanovski 1953 and Finn Belew 1918 shared the first place with 4.5/5 points each.

Under 1900 section had 61 participants. Owen Durby 1858, Taja Delijani 1814 and Angelo Sebastian Rano Agbayani 1763 shared the first place with 4.5/5 points each.

Under 1700 section attracted 44 players. Ethan Chou Dyget 1680 took a clear first place with 4.5/5 points.

Under 1500 section gathered 46 participants. Andrew Zhuoyuan You 1465 won with the perfect 5/5 score.

Under 1300 section had 44 players. Aryan Mijwad Ali 1191 won with the perfect 5/5 score.

Under 1000 section had 67 participants. Chyngyz Abylkasymov 889 won with the perfect 5/5 score.
