Budapest Chess Olympiad 2024

Several national chess federations, including Scotland, Germany, Turkey, and England, have reported difficulties in communication with the Budapest Chess Olympiad organizers.

Accommodation inquiries are often ignored or met with rude responses.

The organizers are allegedly trying to charge extra for keeping all members of a delegation in the same hotel, a standard practice in Olympiads.

It appears that by default the members of the same delegation are scattered across different hotels.

Scotlandโ€™s head of delegation expressed frustration on Twitter, calling the situation disgraceful.
“This is really disgraceful. Whoever is in charge of this fiasco should be removed. I haven’t heard anything from Dana Reizniece-Ozola @FIDE_chess since Friday which is very disappointing given the timescale.”

After a week of uncertainty, Team Scotland booked their own apartments.
“Forced into separating our teams, we have decided to book apartments to solve the issue. Paying exorbitant official prices to be miles from each other wasn’t very attractive. Organisation has been awful and @FIDE_chess very little help. Hope they do better with the chess element!
