Meet the youngest team of the 2024 Chess Olympiad, Women’s representation of Cayman Islands! They have an average age of 12.5, with the following team composition: 1. Laia Swaminathan, 2. Melinda Suico, 3. Zara Majid, 4. Anvita Niranjan Patil, and 5. Abbie McClenaghan.
14-year-old Zara Majid shared her thoughts about her first Chess Olympiad: “It’s been so much fun because you get to meet so many new people and so far, this is the last time this year I am going to see all of my friends from a ton of different countries and I am so excited I got to see them again“.
Speaking about the atmosphere in the team, Zara added: “Chess has been the way that we’ve all bonded together and it’s the thing that always brings us together. If we have a fight, chess brings us back together!“.
