The 2024 Mitropa Chess Cup is ending today in Apolda, Germany. With one round to go, the Open section winner is already known!
German Open Team scored all eight victories in the first eight rounds, and with a convincing score of 16 match points, secured the Winners’ trophy. Switzerland is second with 14 match points, and theoretically, the two teams could finish the event with the same match points score. But it wouldn’t be enough for Switzerland to leap to the top because of significantly lower board points. With the score of 12 match points, Czech Republic heads into the last round with clear third.
The last round starts today (February 23rd) at 10:00 CET, and live games can be followed here. Results and rankings can be found here.
