The Grenke Chess Festival returns this year after a five-year pause! The event features the Grenke Chess Classic 2024 with the world’s top grandmasters and the Grenke Chess Open 2024 (with A, B and C categories) which already attracted 1000 entries! The event will take place from 28 March – 1 April 2024, at the Congress Centre Karlsruhe, Germany.
The Grenke Chess Classic 2024 will be played as a 6-player double round-robin tournament, with GM Magnus Carlsen, GM Ding Liren, GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, GM Richard Rapport, GM Vincent Keymer and GM Daniel Fridman in the field. The event will be played with two 45-minute games per day.

Simultaneously with the Grenke Chess Classic, the Congress Centre Karlsruhe will host the Open tournament which features a prize fund of 70.000 euros with 20.000 euros reserved for the winner of the Open A. The Grenke Chess Open 2024 will be played in three categories; Open A (for players rated 1950+), Open B (for players rated U2000), and Open C (for players rated U1650). The main Open A will run with 9 swiss rounds, and time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves + 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds increment per move. One of the biggest tournaments in Europe in previous years gathered more than 2000 players, and already more than 1000 players registered for the 2024 edition.
