It was the first free day today at the Norway Chess 2023 in Stavanger. Traditionally, the organizers of the Norway Chess make special events for the world top grandmasters during free days and today it was the knitting competition!
All eight players took part in the event, divided into 4 groups: Magnus Carlsen & Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri & Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Fabiano Caruana & Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Gukesh D & Aryan Tari. The players needed to design a knittable sweater and they seemed much more worried than over the chess boards!
One would say that Alireza Firouzja would dominate the field as he previously mentioned that he would like to build his own fashion designer career, however, Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri showed themselves quite well. They posted their own designs on twitter, and we must admit – We would all wear them!
