The 7th edition of the San Cristóbal de La Laguna International Chess Tournament (VII Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez San Cristóbal de La Laguna) kicks off today, August 22, 2026, on the picturesque island of Tenerife, Spain.
Running through August 29, the classical 9-round Swiss tournament takes place in the historic halls of the Museo Santa Clara Arte Sacro in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
The 2026 edition features a total of 157 participants representing 15 national federations.
The lineup boasts significant titled strength, headlined by 11 Grandmasters (GMs) and 16 International Masters (IMs) competing for the total prize fund of approximately €10,500, with €2,000 allocated for the tournament winner.

The event is jointly organized by the Organismo Autónomo de Deportes de San Cristóbal de La Laguna (OAD) and the Federación Canaria de Ajedrez, with institutional support from the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and the Federación Insular de Ajedrez de Tenerife.
