GM Vladislav Nevednichy Triumphs at Mikis Theodorakis Chess Open 2026

The 5th edition of the Mikis Theodorakis International Chess Tournament was held from 3-9 April in Chania, Greece. The event featured nearly 150 participants across three categories (Open A, B, and C), headlined by five Grandmasters in the premier section.

GM Vladislav Nevednichy (Romania, 2429) dominated the Open A field, finishing as the clear winner with an unbeaten 7.5/9 points. His performance kept him a half-point ahead of the chasing pack throughout the final rounds.

GM Harikrishnan A.Ra (India, 2515) was second with 7 points, while three players tied for bronze scoring 6.5 points each, but GM Kristian Stuvik (NOR, 2496) climbed the podium thanks to better tiebreak criteria than GM Momchil Nikolov (Bulgaria, 2412) and GM Vladimir Hamitevici (Moldova, 2434).

The event was organised by Chania Chess Academy at the Mikis Theodorakis Theater, located at the Venetian harbour of Chania. The total prize fund of the event was €4,100.
