Game Analysis: GM Judit Polgar vs The World 1-0

The game opened with a highly theoretical and solid Ruy Lopez, which is one of the oldest and most popular chess openings. However, after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0-0 Bc5 6.c3 0-0 7.d4, the Chess World opted for inaccurate 7…exd4?! which immediately gives White an edge.

Already in the next couple of moves, the strongest female chess player generated a decisive advantage as The World faltered after 8.cxd4 Ba7 9.e5 Nd5?, where instead, 9…Ne4 would give the best possible chances.

Going further into the game, 10.Bb3 Nce7 11.Bg5 c6 12.Bxd5 cxd5 13.Nc3 h6 14.Bh4 g5?? was a crucial mistake which basically ended the game. Try finding the winning move for Whites!

It was clear that Judit, who’s known for her dynamical and aggressive chess style, won’t miss this tactical opportunity! She went for 15.Nxg5! and the rest of the game was a matter of technique.

After 15…hxg5 16.Bxg5 d6 17.Qh5 Bxd4 18.Bf6 Ng6 19.Nxd5 Bxe5 20.Bxd8 Rxd8 21.f4 Bd4+ 22.Kh1 Bxb2 23.f5 Bxa1 24.fxg6 fxg6 25.Ne7+ Kg7 26.Qxg6+ Kh8 27.Qh6# came as the final move shown in Judit’s video.
