GM Vladimir Fedoseev qualifies for 1st Freestyle Chess Grand Slam

The 1st Freestyle Chess Grand Slam is set to take place from 7-14 February in Weissenhaus, Germany. The event will feature 10 players, nine invited, and the Winner of the Qualifier event held on chess.com.

GM Vladimir Fedoseev (Slovenia) became one of the elite ten after winning the Qualifier championship which took place from 2-8 January. Reigning European Fischer Random Chess Champion, Vladimir Fedoseev, proved his skills in 960 chess discipline once again, and booked his spot for the $750,000 first leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam.

On his way to the qualification, Vladimir Fedoseev defeated GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland) in the quarterfinals with a convincing 2-0 score, then beat Ian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (FIDE) with a narrow 2.5-1.5 result, and took down GM Javokhir Sindarov (Uzbekistan) in the finals with the final score of 3-2.

The field of the 1st Freestyle Chess Grand Slam event includes: World #1 GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), World #2 GM Fabiano Caruana (USA), World #3 GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA), World #5 and reigning World Chess Champion GM Gukesh D (India), World #6 GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (Uzbekistan), World #7 GM Alireza Firouzja (France), World #10 GM Viswanathan Anand (India), World #11 GM Levon Aronian (USA), and World #20 GM Vincent Keymer (Germany).
