Arianne Caoili Memorial Weekender 2024 took place from 23-25th August at the Broadbeach Cultural Centre in Broadbeach Waters, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
The event was organized by the Gold Coast Chess Club to commemorate the life and chess of WIM Arianne Caoili, who began her chess journey at Somerset College and tragically passed away in 2020 in her prime.
There were two Divisions:
โ Open Division, 7-round Swiss tournament
โ Minor Division, for players rated U1800 ACF, 6-round Swiss tournament
The Open Division had 29 participants. Australiaโs Grandmasters Zong-Yuan Zhao and David Smerdon shared the first place with 6/7 points each. Zhao sported a slightly better tiebreak and was awarded with the trophy.
The Minor Division had 49 participants. Carlos Mario Claros Cachaya (Colombia) and Austin Chen shared the first place with 5/6 points each.
