The Costa Rican Women’s Chess Championship 2024 took place from 2-18 February as a 9-round swiss tournament with the participation of 27 players.
The top-seeded WIM Kristel Melissa Diaz Charpentier lived up to the expectations and won the event scoring unbeaten 8/9 points. Kristel Diaz maintained the leadership throughout the event and pocketed the Winner prize of 200.000 CRC (~360 EUR). WCM Sofia Mayorga Araya was closely following Kristel Diaz trailing by half a point, but eventually claimed silver with the score of 7.5 points, while Victoria Canales Chinchilla won bronze with 6.5 points.
