The GrandChessTour asked the Sinquefield Cup players, including Ding Liren and Gukesh D, the following question: “With the World Chess Championship nearing, and the two competitors playing in this tournament. How important is their performance in this event?”
Fabiano Caruana: “I think it will maybe be more important for us to understand what form they’re in.”
Ding Liren: “It’s a good opportunity to gain confidence in classical time control and I hope to beat him. Or at least not lose against him.”
Ian Nepomniachtchi: “I don’t care. The game will be played and we will know the results, yeah? I’m not like a prophet here.”
Gukesh D: “This is a separate tournament. The match will be a different experience, so it does not matter a lot, but yeah I want to perform at my best.”
