WFM Ayan Allahverdiyeva wins Azerbaijan Women’s Chess Championship 2024

Theย Azerbaijan Womenโ€™s Chess Championship 2024ย took place from 11-17 February in Baku, as a 7-round swiss tournament with 15 participants.

Third-seeded WFM Ayan Allahverdiyeva emerged as the sole winner of the event with the score of 5.5 points. Allahverdiyeva started the year with the major success following her triumph at the World U18 Chess Championship last year. Despite a slow start with 2.5/4 points, Ayan Allahverdiyeva bounced back and won the last three games to clinch the title. Narmin Abdinova and WIM Sabina Ibrahimova tied for silver scoring 5 points each, but Abdinova came second thanks to better tiebreaks, while Ibrahimova won bronze medal.
