The 2024 South West Chess Festival is coming up soon on 14-15th September at the Community Centre, 33 Tunbridge Street, Margaret River, Western Australia.
The 2024 South West Chess Festival comprises two tournaments โ the traditional South West Open and the inaugural South West Rapid.
The South West Open is an ACF-rated Chess Association of Western Australia Grand Prix event. It incorporates the Western Australia Country Championship, awarded to the highest-scoring Western Australia player residing outside the Perth Metropolitan Area.
The South West Rapid is an ACF-rated event limited to ACF U1500 and unrated players. This event provides an opportunity for players who may not be used to tournament chess to try out over-the-board chess.
The tournament format is Swiss (Dutch variant), with 6 rounds, to be rated on the June 2024 ACF Classic list.
Time Controls are Open: 60 minutes with 10 second increment for Open, and 25 minutes with 10 second increment for Rapid.
Prizes: Minimum $500 1st prize in the Open. Other prizes will depend on the number of entries.
