by doubleattack

For the first time ever, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and Chess.com have joined forces to give you a unique chance to become the first Olympic Esports Series Chess Master.

Join the online qualifiers for a shot at playing in the finals in Singapore against the world’s top online chess players. Players are able to take part in as many qualifiers as they choose until the open qualification round closes 7 April.

FIDE and Chess.com have organised a mix of open qualifiers and invitationals over three rounds, beginning 1 April and ending 7 April. Each day will see three Arenas, from 5am, 7:30am and 10am (Pacific time).

All games are in the 3+2 time control. The Olympic Esports Series features four phases:

  • Open Qualifiers
  • Trials
  • Preliminaries
  • OES Finals

Open Qualifiers:

  • Only non-FIDE-titled players who played at least 20 games on their accounts can participate.
  • Open Qualifiers comprises 21 events.
  • Each event is a three-hour Arena, with pairings determined by players’ scores.
  • A maximum of 2000 players can participate in each arena.
  • The top-three players from each event are eligible to play in the Trials phase.
  • Players who are already eligible for the Trials phase can’t play in subsequent Open Qualifiers.

For the next stage of Trials FIDE-titled players join the non-titled players coming from the open qualifiers. Trials will be played as 11-round Swiss with top-four players advancing to a single-elimination knockout.

For the Preliminaries 14 qualified players from the Trials join two invited players to compete in the super-exciting “Elimination Swiss” format.

The Olympic Esports Series finals take place June 22-25, 2023, in Singapore. More details to be announced.
