The Kyrgyz Chess Federation proposed to remove the restrictions on both the Russian and Belarusian Chess Federations. In addition, secret voting is proposed, fueling the fears of bribery.

The Norwegian Chess Federation Board believes that the proposal to remove the restrictions on the Russian and Belarusian federations must be rejected.

NCF will vote against the proposal and express dissatisfaction with the proposal, in coordination with the other Nordic federations.

NCF Deputy chairman Jon Kristian Haarr reminded of the current policy that Russian and Belarusian players are not allowed to participate in Norwegian chess tournaments.

“It is unfortunately the case that international chess, i.e. FIDE, is largely controlled by Russians. The president is Russian, and large parts of the administration are Russian,” says Haarr.

The president of Fide, Arkady Dvorkovich, is a former deputy prime minister of Russia. He was considered a close ally of Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president. Today, Medvedev is one of those who most often threatens the West with nuclear weapons.

The Norwegian Chess Federation did vote for the election of Arkady Dvorkovich in 2018.
